Why I Started Blogging & How It Changed My life

Since I have gotten a lot of questions about why I started a blog, here goes!
Let’s start where every good story begins…

As a person who had studied BS Computer Science, we can decide what path we want to pursue in whatever industry we desire because we focused on the study of software systems and every single industry requires programmers. That means we had endless possibilities, but with all these possibilities, I didn't even try to work in any companies because I knew from the start that the corporate world is not for me. All I want in life is to work at home or anywhere I want and be my own boss. I really love freedom, excitement and adventure.

As my own boss, I can determine my own schedule. And, in my humble opinion, it doesn’t get any better than that. If, I want to work from mid-night till morning, then I do it. Vacation? No Problem. Holidays? Check. If I am my own boss, I can work my job around my life, rather than my life around my job. That’s what I call freedom. Now, I can take all the freedom I can get.

In 2008, I became a freelance writer in an American online magazine. It eventually helped me making some cash, more than sufficient for a freelancer like me that’s why when the website has closed down, I have enough money to launched my own online clothing line called Pink Fashion at Palladium - New World Hotel, a luxury 5-star hotel in Makati.

Before, the idea of becoming a full time blogger never crossed my mind. I just thought the stuff I was reading online were articles written by freelancers on a website. Yeah, I just called them “websites”. I didn’t even know that I was reading “blogs”. What the heck is a “blog” anyway? But in 2010, when I was looking for a creative outlet for myself and searched for ideas on Google, that’s when I discovered blogging. This was when itjulieann.com was formed.

I do blogging for more reasons than just receiving free stuff, trying to get paid to do nothing or to have a nice life. My blogging story is different. Throughout my life, finding creative outlets has been really important to me. When I was a kid, I was constantly crafting, making paper and barbie dolls clothes and I rewrite the story of my favorite cartoon series Peter Pan at the back of my notebook. When I was in high school, I started writing poems in my journal that's still on my cabinet until now. In college, I opted into a drama class and won as the Best Actress award after competing in other schools. I realize now how important creativity is to my sanity and overall emotional well-being. I live to create, and through blogging, I have an easy way to do it every single day.

Blogging allows me to write down my thoughts and express my feelings through photography, to share my art with the world and to develop the kind of creative I want to become. Blogging allowed me a safe space to experiment, to reflect, and to process my thoughts and feelings. You know, there are so many creative outlets when it comes to blogging. From editing photos to writing blog posts and coming up with content and photoshoot ideas. With this, I have the opportunity to be creative every day.

Honestly, one of the best career choices I’ve ever made was to learn how to start a blog. I didn't start creating blog knowing it would lead to a full-time job. In fact, I didn't even know it could be a full-time job, especially because my earnings were so poor back then. But I didn't care because I didn't need to make money from it, I just loved doing it. By then, I slowly starting to meet people around the Metro and learning about others’ creative processes and inspirations. First, it started locally. Then, I started to connect with artists and bloggers across the globe. I started seeing this woven network of people that were connecting on and then offline. These incredible people, from all walks of life – different backgrounds, different talents, and different perspectives – were collaborating and creating amazing things together.

After years later, I realized the incredible potential it held. I didn’t know that I would fall in love with the creative process or just how much my reader would come to mean to me. I didn’t know it would lead me to form amazing friendships, travel to new places, exclusive event invites, collaborations, become brand ambassadors and do the modeling stuff or to be interviewed on the radio and television.

Now in 2019, I can say with great pride that I have been full-time blogging since 2010. It has been full of ups and downs, incredible opportunities and many difficult lessons but I wouldn't change a damn thing. I adore my job and this ever growing business that I have created for myself. It is how I always hope my blog comes across; it is how I wish to be remembered.

As this blog continues to grow and evolve, I just want to thank everyone who’s supported me and been along for the ride! I can’t wait to share the next chapter with you guys!
