A Ride Through the 80's

There’s something about 80's music that makes every drive feel cinematic.

Maybe it’s the synths that sound like city lights at midnight. Maybe it’s the soft melancholy hidden beneath upbeat melodies. Or maybe it’s because these songs were made for movement, for highways, sunsets, rainy windows, and staring outside while the world quietly passes by.

Lately, I’ve been making a Spotify playlist filled with songs from the 80's that feel perfect for traveling. Not the loud, party kind of playlist. I wanted something warm. Something nostalgic. Music that makes an ordinary commute feel like the ending scene of an old film.

The kind of songs you play while:

  • driving home after a long day
  • watching the sky turn orange before sunset
  • sitting by the car window during a road trip
  • wandering through unfamiliar streets
  • or simply pretending life is slower than it really is
There’s a comforting feeling in old songs. They don’t rush you. They breathe.

When Everybody Wants to Rule the World starts playing, suddenly the road feels wider. When Time After Time comes on, everything softens a little. And somehow, Drive always sounds better at night.

This playlist became more than just “songs for traveling.” It slowly turned into background music for quiet moments. For slowing down. For looking outside instead of at a screen. For letting thoughts wander during long rides with nowhere urgent to be.

Maybe that’s what I miss most these days... slowness.

Not everything needs to happen quickly. Not every silence needs filling. Sometimes a good song, an open road, and a passing sunset are enough. So this is my little ride through the 80's. A Spotify playlist for late-night drives, sleepy afternoons, and moments when you just want life to feel softer for a while.

I’ll leave the playlist here in case you want something to play during your next late-night drive or while spending a quiet afternoon at home: [a ride through the 80's]
